Outdoor adventures

Unsurprisingly, most visitors and residents of Swansboro love the area for its unbelievable outdoor excursions. Plan your next adventure on the Intracoastal Waterway by bringing your own boat or renting one from a nearby marina—Dudley's and Casper's are just a few popular options. Swansboro has also established itself as an angler's paradise, where fishers of every level can try to score an amazing catch. And if you'd rather spend time on land, we recommend exploring the massive Hammocks Beach State Park or soaking up the views at Bicentennial Park.

Shopping and dining

There's a reason why Swansboro is known as the "friendly town by the sea"—and it's largely thanks to its amazing selection of local businesses. Take some time to explore Historic Downtown Swansboro, and you'll find an assortment of must-visit destinations. Locals often recommend Cameo Boutique, a homey yet contemporary shop with some of the trendiest clothes. The Mercantile is known for its home goods, while Bake, Bottle, and Brew offers a little something for everyone. Feeling hungry? Don't miss out on Saltwater Grill or The Boro!

A+ education

Swansboro residents are served by Onslow County Schools, one of the largest public school systems in North Carolina. The district operates 39 institutions with more than 27,000 students throughout the Crystal Coast. Specifically, children in the Swansboro area attend Queens Creek Elementary, Swansboro Elementary, Swansboro Middle, and Swansboro High. Many students go on to attend nearby Coastal Carolina Community College.

Annual events

There's never a shortage of excitement when you call Swansboro home. Although the town is busiest during the summer months, you'll still be able to mark your calendar with exciting festivities all year-long. Favorites include Swan Fest in Olde Town Square, the Rotary Club's King Mackerel Tournament, and the Swansboro Mullet Festival (the fish, not the hair!). And during winter, be sure to stop by the Intracoastal for an amazing holiday light flotilla!
